Academic Overview
Our curriculum is designed to allow your child to explore, to think and to question for themselves from a very young age and to enjoy their experiences at Shrewsbury House Pre-Preparatory school.
Engaging teaching, through a variety of learning methods and techniques, provides a strong foundation for your child as they progress through the school, ensuring they are well prepared for the next step in their educational journey. We know each child very well, allowing us to tailor learning objectives to each individual child and stretch them to a suitable level, so they achieve as best they can.
Encouraging the Early Years (Nursery and Reception) children’s curiosity through a mixture of play and supported learning helps your child develop the fundamental skills and knowledge to help access the curriculum in Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2) and to develop to the best of their ability.
Years 1 and 2 provide a more structured environment within the classroom with teachers and assistants working closely with each individual child to meet their individual needs. A strong sense of wonder and discovery is maintained throughout, with children encouraged to be creative, to challenge and to question, not afraid to make mistakes and willing to have a go.
Individual performance and progress is closely monitored by each class teacher, alongside a tracking system, providing valuable evidence of a child’s development. Information and observations are shared regularly with parents, both formally and informally, so that they are part of their child’s learning journey and can be involved in their development.
